DG Rangers threatened “dire consequences” if refused
Mrs. Afaq Ahmad, wife of chairman of Mohajir Qaumi Movement alleged the Director General of Pakistan Rangers demanded her husband leave the country, along with party stalwart Amir Khan, and threatened “dire consequences” if they refused.

Addressing a news conference after talks with ARD Chief Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan at his residence, she claimed: “The DG Rangers offered huge sums of money and other facilities abroad to Afaq Ahmed and Amir Khan. On their refusal he threatened them with dire consequences.”

She said the threats had been dismissed by her husband, who vowed not to deviate from the party’s present stance and would refuse to back Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali in a Vote of Confidence. She said the PPPP and MMA would support their stance in Sindh.

She said the decision to appoint Ishratul Abaad, wanted for murder and grand larceny, as Governor of Sindh, showed the true face of the “new democracy”.

She said the authorities were victimizing MQM members, and accused Gen Musharraf of intending to crush the MQM to win the 17 seats of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Mrs Afaq branded deadly rivals the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and its leader Altaf Hussain “anti Pakistan”, and was striving for a 1940 resolution of a united India. She claimed that, according to the Indian agenda Altaf Hussain’s party joined Jaya-e-Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, whose leader Bashir Qureshi had consistently invited India to intervene in Pakistan.

She said the army must have no role in politics, and blamed them for "bringing destruction whenever they come to power."

She said her husband and Amir Khan had once been as vital to Altaf Hussain as Abdul Sattar and Aftab Sheikh were now, but their popularity among the masses sealed their fate. She said her delegation held detailed discussion with the ARD chief on the inclusion of their party in the alliance, according to plans dating back two years.
